Is Dan Wilson Qualified to be Sheriff?

    Who is Dan Wilson?

Dan Wilson is a long-time area resident and small business owner, with twelve years of experience as a reserve officer.   He is a solid, independent, MAGA conservative, who is deeply concerned about government overreach and corruption, especially as it concerns law enforcement.  Wilson has not previously been active in Idaho politics, but after reaching a point in his life that he could dedicate his full attention to helping reform problems in local government, he decided to run against a sheriff that he sees as part of the problem.

Above all, Wilson is independent.  Unlike many local office holders, he is not beholden to special interests, or under the control of well-connected handlers or stakeholders.   And it is his mission to bring true leadership, and constitutional principles to the office of Sheriff and help free KCSO from the insidious influence of Masonic networks and two-tiered systems of justice.

During his twelve-years as reserve police officer, Wilson gained a deep understanding of how law enforcement agencies operate and saw first-hand how the field of public safety was becoming increasingly federalized, bureaucratized, and controlled by those with a leftist, “Big Government” agenda.    It was these issues and concern about the way that Norris was politicizing the sheriff’s office, and constantly demanding bigger and bigger L.E. budgets, that inspired him to run for office.

    Experience, Independence, Equal Justice

There are important issues on which Wilson differs substantially from Norris:  Community policing, Illegal aliens, the need for a helicopter, Federal L.E. grants, Licence Plate Readers, Reserve Officer programs, Special Deputy status, Jail expansion,  and relations with the CDA tribe, to name a few.    A debate that focused on these issues would benefit all of Kootenai County.

But instead of agreeing to debate these matters openly so the race can be decided on issues, Norris and his backers prefer make "experience" the sole issue on which the race should be decided, and attempt to discredit Wilson by claiming that he is "not qualified" to be sheriff because he is not a career, government employee.

But that is Preposterous.   How is two decades of experience working with corrupt Federal agencies, and 30 years on government payrolls, capped with a $150K per year disability pension, a necessary qualification for public office?  Dan's experience in the private sector is every bit as valuable as lifetime government employment.  Conservatives should know better.

From the point of view of regular citizens, Wilson’s independence from career public service is a plus.  He has enough policing experience and knowledge of law enforcement to lead, but he is not involved with KCSO political shenanigans, and he owes no favors to the Kootenai County “establishment.”

From the stakeholders viewpoint, however, Dan Wilson's independence and commitment to equal  justice for all is his fatal flaw.   Wilson is not an establishment creature and is not controllable, and therefore, he is not “qualified” to lead.   Far better to stick with an ambitious yes-man who surrounds himself with establishment handlers and is on excellent terms with the areas wealthiest donors.

Norris has more “experience” in professional law enforcement, but fortunately for Dan Wilson, “experience” is a two-way street.   North Idaho conservatives are starting to recognize that Norris’s “experience” includes many things that they want no part of.

    Qualifications for Sheriff

People who believe that Wilson is not “qualified” to be Sheriff, do not understand the Sheriff's Office.   A sheriff is a political leader, not an administrator.  Like the mayor of a city, the sheriff represents the interests of the citizens, sets policy, approves budgets, handles ceremonial tasks, and provides oversight and direction.  It is the undersheriff who runs the day-to-day operation of a sheriff’s office.

Sheriffs are Politicians, and they can get voted out of office.  It is the undersheriff who is the key administrative leader in a sheriff’s office, and he is very likely to be a career Law Enforcement officer.   The undersheriff is a position of great importance with serious administrative responsibilities, and it is somewhat ironic that until Norris became sheriff, the undersheriff was substantially better compensated than the Sheriff.

This chart shows the salaries of Law Enforcement leaders over the last four years, and the massive recent pay hike for the sheriff. Under Norris, the KCSO budget has increased by 34%, and the sheriff’s salary by 62%,  but the undersheriff's salary increased by only 26%.

Obviously, the comparison between the duties of a sheriff and mayor only goes so far.   As the highest-ranking elected law enforcement officer in a county, Sheriffs have the duty to protect the constitutional rights of county residents.   And it is on this issue, that the contrast between Wilson and Norris is most striking.

Wilson is a member of CSPOA, a Constitutional Sheriff’s Association, and protecting the rights of local citizens from the abuses of Federal and State governments, is one of the main planks of his campaign.  And it seems that Sheriff Mack, head of CSPOA agrees that Wilson, rather than Norris is the best man for the job.  At his presentation here in Kootenai County, Sheriff Mack endorsed Dan Wilson, and Bob Norris was a no-show.

If Kootenai Voters want a sheriff with strong connections to the Kootenai County “establishment”, who will continually increase KCSO spending, turn the sheriff's office into his personal empire, and politicize law enforcement, then Norris is your man.   But if they want an independent sheriff, with no hidden loyalties, who will keep budgets in check, protect residents from federal overreach, and treat all citizens fairly, then Wilson is better qualified.

    The Devil You Know

Dan Wilson has twelve years of experience in Law Enforcement, solid conservative credentials, and independence from establishment interests.   And he has pointed out many serious problems with Norris’s administration.  Yet he is fighting an uphill battle.   Why should voters put their faith in a new candidate, when they’ve been misled so many times before. After all, “Better the Devil You Know than the Devil You Don’t”

So Wilson has two jobs.  One is to introduce himself to a wary public, and to convince them that he can be trusted to serve the people of Kootenai County, not just stakeholders and "insiders."  He does this through his website the Idaho Sheriff, frequent public appearances, livestreams, social media, and personal contacts.

The other is to expose the myriad of problems with Norris’s administration.  Norris supporters criticize Wilson for "negative campaigning", but that is self-serving humbug.  It is pointless to run for KC sheriff against Norris without “going negative” because there is a significat cost to change, and  If there are no rotten apples, why upset the apple-cart?

    Sheriff Norris's Rap Sheet

Fortunately for Wilson, there is a mountain of evidence that Norris has a pernicious influence on KCSO, and NISGR has helped to expose many of these problems.    The following is a brief summary of Norris’s shortcomings, which make him unfit for Kootenai County Sheriff.    Links to articles with many more examples and detailed evidence are provided for each.

We encourage Kootenai Voters to investigate these issues and judge for themselves.

Connections to Fraternal Organizations—In the view of NISGR, Norris’s greatest problem is his connection to Fraternal Organizations and Masonry.   Of course, Norris denies that he is a Freemason, but what many people don’t understand is that the cult of Masonry is no longer confined to Freemason lodges—dozens of fraternal organizations and service clubs are infiltrated, and Norris is associated with several of these groups.   The problem with masonry is that it is a corrupting influence that fosters favoritism and “insider” deals that have no place in Law Enforcement.   The article Is Norris a Freemason? expands on Norris's many connections to Masonry.

Betrayal of Conservatives—Nowhere is the problem of the corrupting influence of Masonry more apparent than in Norris’s extremely dubious dealings with the KC Sheriff’s Employee Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.  With the help of Mattare, Norris has turned the Sheriff’s Deputies association into a political machine, and polarized the entire office. This scandal was exposed in the article The Great Betrayal: Norris, Mattare, and the KCSEA-FOP, and it is a serious indictment of his leadership.

Connections to RINOs and Big-Government—Norris presents himself to Kootenai voters as a solid MAGA conservative, but there is substantial evidence that he is in league with the RINO wing of the Republican party, and that he supports globalist/leftist “big government” agencies and programs.   The article Is Norris a RINO? documents many ways in which Norris shows his RINO colors.

Connections to Federal and International L.E. Agencies—In his official KCSO Bio, Norris boasts about his past working relationships with the Department of Homeland Security, and the, FBI, CIA, FEMA and DOJ.   These are all extremely corrupt Federal Agencies, with bad reputations among patriots.    Even worse, Norris boasts about working with Mossad and Shit Bet of Israel, and doesn’t see a problem with having local law enforcement agencies engaged with a notoriously corrupt globalist intelligence mafia.

Favors to Large Donors—One of many concerns NISGR has with the Sheriff’s Helicopter program is the fact that it provides a way for large donors to exert undo influence over the Sheriff’s office.  The charge of favoritism towards helicopter donors is a serious one, and NISGR has identified numerous “conflicts of interests” in the article  Who is Behind the Sheriff’s Helicopter.  Possibly the most concerning is that one of the helicopter’s main donors facilitates foreign work permits, and may have influenced the Sheriff's policies regarding illegal immigrants. But there are several other potential conflicts of interest as well.

Special Deputy Status to Supporters—Norris has been criticized for granting special deputy status to Bruce Mattare, his campaign manager, but to see the significance of this problem, it is necessary to understand that, inappropriate relationships between the Sheriff’s office and wealthy donors was an ongoing scandal in LASO while Norris worked there.   Specifically, Norris was very close to  Chris Vovos, one of the millionaire “special deputies” that was accused of funneling thousands of dollars in illegal contributions to the Sheriff’s campaign.  Vovos also made potentially illegal donations to Norris.

Insanely Generous Donors—The amount of money that Norris was able to raise in order to oppose Wilson,— a little known, independent challenger,—is  astonishing.  In just a few months Norris raised over $108K, with at least 57 donors making the maximum $1000 contribution. Another 30 donors gave $500 or more. And this doesn’t even include the $28K from the KC Deputy Sheriff’s PAC, which was used to promote his candidacy.

But what is even more disturbing is that many of Norris's large donors are extremely wealthy and influentical stakeholders, and NISGR has investigated certain potential conflicts of interest in the article Sheriff Norris and the Multi-Millionaires.

To put this in perspective, Norris’s 2024 funding-raising was 4th out of over 650 Idaho races, the highest in Kootenai County, and even $35K more than the Ada County Sheriff’s race—which is also being contested.  So it seems that between Norris’s campaign fund,  the KCDSA PAC, and the sheriff’s helicopter,  boatloads of money from wealthy donors is directed towards the sheriff’s office.   This is not normal and it is not healthy.    Why are Kootenai County "stakeholders" so insistent that Norris is the man for the sheriff's job?

    "False and Misleading Statements"

The final problem with Norris, is simply that he is not truthful.  NISGR is working on an article on this topic because there are so many examples.   And we use the word “untruthful” because his tendency is to twist facts and mislead rather than to tell bold outright lies. His denials of wrongdoing, such as the one posted below, intentionally miss the point, leave out critical information, and demean the person making the allegation.  They are intended to mislead.    Just to give a  few quick examples:

    1.  In an April 2th press releaee, Norris responds to accusations that he intervened in the case of a KCSO Deputy that was arrested for a hit and & run while intoxicated, and then let off the hook.  Norris denied that the KCSO had anything to do with the case since it was investigated by ISP, but he failed to mention that the deputy in question called and talked to him personally TWICE before he was arrested at his home several hours later.
    2. KCSEA flyer kerfluffle, discussed in the Great Betrayal article, outlined above.
    3. In an ongoing lawsuit involving a disturbing interaction with photographer at a recent campaign event, Norris issued a press release officially denying the charge, but he also impugned the reputation of the person making the charge, implied that she had sued him before and he had won, and challenged anyone to produce a video of the the event when he, himself demanded that no videos be made of the event.

In all cases Norris was accused of serious misbehavior, and in all cases he recorded and widely distributed a "denial" video or press release, in which he attempted to discredit his accusers, and made carefully worded, evasive disclaimers. And in all cases, there is over whelming evidence he is guilty as charged.

As Norris says in his press release, "The Sheriff's Office depends on public trust . . . false and misleading statements can distroy that trust and should not be taken lightly".

We agree.  And that is why involvement in any type of Masonic or other private association where oaths are taken to protect and support members should disqualify anyone from holding public office.

Dan Wilson, Independent, Truthful, Constitutional Sheriff

It is easier to make the case for Dan Wilson, the independent challenger for the Sheriff’s office, once the problems with Norris have been thoroughly exposed.  This is because Norris provides an exellent study in contrasts.

To call Wilson Independent means much more when one realizes what a compromised network of insidious influence Norris appears to be a part of.

To call Wilson Truthful means more when one realizes how much we are not being told about what is really going on behind the scenes in the Sheriff’s office.

And the importance of having a Constitutional Sheriff, means more when one recognizes the leftist, big-government tendencies of the existing sheriff, and are aware of the insidious corruption of the federal L.E. agencies that Kootenai residents need to be protected from.

And Wilson’s tagline Liberty without Compromise means more when Kootenai residents realize how compromised the existing sheriff actually is.

So when Dan Wilson claims to be an Independent, Truthful, and Constitutional Sheriff, context is necessary.

The Norris P.R. machine has been hard at work for four years, trying to create the impression in the mind of Kootenai residents that Norris is honest, dependable, respected, and concerned about Kootenai residences.   And to a large extent they have succeeded.   Residents who are unwilling to do the research, may easily believe the charade.

    NISGR Endorses Anti-Globalist Dan Wilson

NISGR is committed to exposing globalist leaders and institutions in North Idaho.   We are muck-rakers rather than promoters, and  do not normally endorse candidates.  We are making an exception in the Sheriff’s race because we have known Dan Wilson for almost twenty years as a member of our local homeschooling community.   We therefore have certain knowledge that he is who he presents himself to be, and that he is not affiliated in any way with globalist networks or agencies.

NISGR is independent and is not affliated with the Wilson campaign except through informal friendships.  Therefore, if you would like to help Dan Wilson become Sheriff of Kootenai County,  you will have to contact the campaign at theIdahoSheriff website.

    • If you would like to help independently, you can do the follow.

More NISGR articles on the Sheriff's Race

These NISGR has done a considerable amount of research into the politics surrounding the KCSO Sheriff's race, and it is amazing how many of the fault lines in Kootenai politics are exposed by a single contest for the chief elected law enforcement officer for the county.   The following articles offer additional insights.
